Orientation for the Rookwood School AidCamp Group

I can see it is going to be tough just trying to keep up with the activities of the Rookwood School AidCamp Group this year.

After their arrival on Saturday they settled into their own home-away-from-home (the name of the type of Centre they'll be working on in Modera) and visited the project site to see the size of the task before them. The students and staff all treated themselves to some Sri Lankan style trousers for their visit - though I should warn you, they are a little 'loud'.

Kevin Knight, one of AidCamps' co-ordinators explains what AidCamps
had previously built at the site

The students explore their new working environment

That's a daunting pile of bricks ...

A 'welcome' King coconut ... and a proper look at those new trousers!

On Sunday the Group visited the fish market in Negombo and the local main market to get a feel for the area, not to mention the raw ingredients of their food for the next two weeks.

The fish are cleaned, gutted and then laid out on the sand to dry under nets to keep the birds off.

What a haul!

Preparing the fish

The Rookwood Shoal AidCamp?

A stunning array of fruit and veg ... and hopefully a nicer smell too!

As you can see the students have had a great first weekend in Sri Lanka and they all look ready for the project ahead of them.

However, the hard work starts today!

I'll be in touch with more information and photographs as and when they arrive.
