SERVE

Based in
Moratuwa

Sri Lanka Globe

SERVE logoBased in Moratuwa, SERVE, our partner organisation in Sri Lanka, works primarily in the areas of social work and education for the benefit of underprivileged and deprived urban and suburban children.

It provides social workers to schools in impoverished areas to address the needs and problems of the students, holds evening classes to enhance children's education, and has an empowerment programme for deaf and blind children.

SERVE also has a programme to build children's resource centres to provide for the needs of children living in the shantytown areas on the coastal strip south of Colombo, the capital.

Main fields of operation

Underprivileged children, deaf children, blind children, education, health, social issues.

Regularly needs independent volunteers for:

Children's resource centresYou'll be working in one of SERVE's "home away from home" children's resource centres, afternoons and Saturdays, helping with creativity classes, games, sports, etc.

Conversational EnglishYou'll teach conversational English to the children in SERVE's resource centres in the afternoons and Saturdays, and to SERVE staff in the mornings.

Deaf and blind childrenOne of SERVE's resource centres provides a child friendly environment for a mixed community of Sinhalese, Tamil, deaf and blind children.  Here you'll also be giving conversational English lessons and helping in creativity sessions, the art classes being especially valuable to the deaf children.

Social issuesSERVE is, at core, an organisation of professional social workers and welcomes guest professionals with appropriate qualifications and experience, including students, who wish to use or broaden their knowledge in specific topics.
