New Co-ordinators' Training Course

Eight ex-volunteers joined two of AidCamps' Trustees, our co-founder Julie Vincent and Marianne Johnson, at Cumberland Lodge in Windsor Great Park.  Though the accommodation was somewhat different to that which we normally experience on an AidCamp, the wonderful historic surroundings and beautiful grounds didn't distract the participants from working hard on the two day course.

The course involved taking the participants, who'd all previously volunteered with the charity, through the planning and delivery of an AidCamp from start to finish. There were team building exercises, presentations, group exercises and even a bit of role play during the weekend.  The idea being to introduce volunteers to the reality of what it means to be a co-ordinator and what the rewards and some of the challenges can be!

Ami, Lucy, Roger, Christine, Bill, Sarah, Suzi and Emma were all put through their paces with a series of 'what if scenarios' - those situations that all new co-ordinators dread but which so rarely (if ever) occur and then tested on their ability to organise the logistics of moving groups of 15 people in and out of different types of accommodation and round a developing country with the support of our NGO partner.

Some of the participants on the course are now looking forward to their first project as the 'trainee' co-ordinator or understudy when they'll be accompanied by one of our established team before being given their own project and let loose on our volunteers!

Everyone at AidCamps is convinced that they'll be a great addition to our growing team of active supporters.

That takes us up to the next level. Great potsing.
